The European Federation of Conservative Dentistry (EFCD) is proud to host the highly successful ConsEuro meetings, first established in Bologna, Italy, in 2000. Starting in 2009, a ConsEuro meeting will be held every second year, typically in association with a meeting of a national society, with the Academy of Operative Dentistry European Section holding meetings in the intervening years.

ConsEuro meetings are the best attended Conservative Dentistry events in Europe and related pan-European fields of special interest and expertise. They are increasingly recognized as being significant, state-of-the-art conferences attended by all those wishing to keep abreast of innovations and developments in clinical practice, let alone enhancing their continuing professional development.

The next ConsEuro meeting—ConsEuro 2009—will be held in Seville, Spain, from March 12–14, 2009. This special event is being organized in conjunction with the Spanish Society of Conservative Dentistry (SEOC). The official language of the meeting will be English.

ConsEuro 2009 will commence on Thursday, March 12, 2009, with national and other society meetings, including programs being organized by the Academy of Operative Dentistry European Section (AODES), the German Society of Conservative Dentistry (DGZ), the Spanish Endodontics Association (AEDE), the Spanish Society of Dental Materials (SEMO) and the Spanish Society of Dental Management (SEGGO).

Concurrently, there will be poster sessions in six subject areas: dental biomaterials, prevention, operative dentistry, endodontics, clinical studies and cases and student investigations. Poster presenters will be able to qualify for poster presentation prizes, which will be judged on the basis of the presenters' posters and a short (less than five minutes) verbal presentation of the work presented. Abstracts of the poster presentations, which must be submitted by mid-November, 2008 at the latest, will be published in Clinical Oral Investigations.

Events on the first day of the meeting (Thursday) will conclude with the official ConsEuro 2009 opening ceremony, which will take place in the historic Reales Alcárzares Centre. At this ceremony, Professors Edwina Kidd (UK) and Erik Asmussen (DK) will be presented with the 2007 and 2008 EFCD Awards of Excellence.

On Friday and Saturday, March 13 and 14, 2009, two parallel lecture programs will be run, as set out in the accompanying provisional program, with internationally renowned speakers addressing topics of immediate clinical relevance.

With lectures spanning caries, minimal intervention, fluorides, dental erosion, the repair of dental ceramics, anterior and posterior direct and indirect restorations, adhesive technologies and modern luting materials, the restoration of endodontically-treated teeth, bleaching and aspects of endodontics, the program includes topics of interest to specialists, practitioners and students at all levels. The Saturday, March 14 program will conclude with the presentation of prizes, followed by a Flamenco Fiesta, where delegates will have the opportunity to relax, enjoy the fellowship of the EFCD and experience Spanish hospitality and entertainment at its best.

The EFCD and the Spanish Society of Conservative Dentistry (SEOC) are delighted to invite colleagues from around Europe, as well as many other parts of the world, to participate in ConsEuro 2009, which promises to be an outstanding, memorable meeting.

My colleagues and I look forward to welcoming you to Seville—Sevilla in March 2009.
