First Joint Annual Meeting of the RV Tucker Academy and the American Academy of Gold Foil Operators
The RV Tucker Academy, in conjunction with the American Academy of Gold Foil Operators, would like to invite any and all interested parties to the inaugural joint annual meeting of these two fine academies, which will be held in Scottsdale, AZ, USA, November 12–16, 2008. The host hotel is the Scottsdale Westin/Kierland Spa and Resort. It is a fabulous four-star resort that has almost attained its fifth star. We have negotiated a block of rooms for a lower rate on a first-come, first-serve basis. Nestled in the scenic Sonoran Desert in North Scottsdale, with a view of the McDowell Mountains, the resort provides an idyllic setting. Adjacent to the hotel is Kierland Commons, a collection of fine boutiques and restaurants that provide unparalleled shopping and dining opportunities. Although the boutiques and restaurants are within walking distance, there is a complimentary shuttle available that runs throughout the day and evening.
The meeting will begin with a Mexican-themed buffet dinner and Welcome Reception, complete with a seven-piece Mariachi band. Thursday is mostly a free day to explore, shop, golf or partake in the many possible activities listed on the meeting link of the RVTucker website http://www.rvtucker.org/. A representative list with pricing and descriptions is available on the Meeting Activities Link. On Thursday evening, attendees will split into smaller groups and dine at several of Scottsdale's fine restaurants. Each group will be accompanied by a representative from the local RV Tucker Study Club.
Friday morning begins early with a 10-minute bus ride to the spectacular new Scottsdale Center for Dentistry. This amazing $55 million facility will be the site for our Friday lectures and our Saturday clinical operations. The Friday schedule leads off with a breakfast in the Mercer Café, which is part of the Scottsdale Center, followed by the Dr George Ellsperman Memorial Lecture to be given in the main auditorium by Dr Terry Tanaka. Words fail to describe the fabulous facility that the administrators of the Scottsdale Center have so graciously provided for our use. After Dr Tanaka's lecture, a luncheon will follow once again in the Mercer Café. After lunch, Dr Terry Donovan will deliver the Dr Don Fournier Memorial Lecture. An afternoon snack is available, but you may want to save your appetite for the Hoe Down–Barn Dance–Barbecue at “Tooth Acres” on scenic Black Mountain in Carefree, AZ. We will dance to the music of “Sidewinder,” and a country-dance instructor will be on hand to show you some “moves.” We will also have the owner of the Page Springs Vineyard in Sedona conducting a wine tasting. Beer and wine, along with barbecue, will be the evening's fare, so “Cowboy-Up” for Friday night.
Saturday morning has us at the Scottsdale Center once again, with breakfast in the Mercer Café. Clinical Operations will be performed during the morning hours. Eight representative operators from each academy will show their skill. A luncheon will once again be provided in the Mercer Café, followed by critiques of the clinical operations in the main auditorium. During the clinical operations, there will be demonstrations on typodonts of Gold Foil technique in the same room as the clinical operatories. Again, an afternoon snack will be provided, followed in the evening by a Champagne reception and Gala Dinner. Entertainment, which includes a harpist, a dance band and Native American Hoop Dancers, will continue throughout the evening. This particular troupe of Hoop Dancers has performed for President Bush and many European leaders. The final event is a farewell brunch on Sunday.
A registration form is provided, and more details can be found on the RV Tucker Website under “2008 Meeting.” To summarize what is included are the Wednesday evening buffet dinner, transportation to and from any off-property events, breakfast, lunch and afternoon snacks both Friday and Saturday, the Barbecue-Barn Dance, including wine and beer, the Champagne reception Saturday evening, the semi-formal Gala Dinner-Dance and the Farewell Brunch on Sunday. There will be surprises not mentioned above and Southwestern hospitality galore. So, please consider joining us in this celebration of gold-based restorative dentistry.

Our meeting is the heart of the Academy and is held in conjunction with the Chicago mid-winter meeting and various other academy meetings so that attendees can maximize the benefits of their time and travel. Please plan to join your colleagues and fellow academy members to receive cutting-edge information and be revitalized in your commitment to excellence in dentistry.
Please register for this meeting no later than January 23rd (and preferably earlier) and help the Academy fill our block of rooms by staying at the Fairmont Hotel. This is essential for the success of our meeting and helps us to maintain the most advantageous meeting fee structure for our members.
Remember, the Academy of Operative Dentistry is an ADA-CERP recognized provider, and the Academy will award attendees 12 hours of continuing education at the 2009 meeting. A certificate will be provided to each registrant at the conclusion of the meeting.

In addition, there will be hands-on breakout sessions dealing with Conservative Cast Gold, Direct Gold and Implants and Anterior Aesthetics.
RECEPTION: Finally, our Gala Reception on Thursday evening will once again provide a wonderful, once-a-year platform for socializing with all our friends and colleagues from across the country and around the world. Plan to join us in the International Ballroom at 6:30 p.m.
