This year's recipient is Robert C Keene. A graduate of the University of New Hampshire, Bob served in the Air Force from 1956–1959. After his active military service, Bob received his dental degree from Tufts Dental School, where he graduated as a member of OKU. After graduation, Bob and his family moved back to Hanover, New Hampshire, where he enjoyed practicing as a successful general dentist for 47 years.
In addition to his practice, Bob was an Adjunct Associate Professor of Surgery and an Adjunct Associate Professor of Anatomy for the Dartmouth College Medical School. He continues to mentor Dartmouth medical students interested in oral health. He is also the pre-dental advisor for Dartmouth College.
Throughout his career, Bob has been an active participant in organized dentistry. He is a Life Member of the American Dental Association, a Past-President of the Grafton-Sullivan Dental Society, a member of the American Academy of Restorative Dentistry and the Academy of Operative Dentistry. He is board certified by the American Board of Operative Dentistry, proudly holding Certificate #007 and is a past Secretary-Treasurer of that organization. He is on the editorial board of Operative Dentistry. His past memberships include the American Society of Preventive Dentistry, the American Society of Dentistry for Children and the International College of Dentistry. In addition, Bob was appointed to the New Hampshire Board of Dental Examiners and was a North East Regional Board Examiner for 10 years.
Bob was a founding member of his Gold Foil Study Club in 1964. He has served as the Club Mentor and Director. Bob serves as the Secretary-Treasurer of the American Academy Of Gold Foil Operators and has been its Meeting Planner.
Bob received the Service Award from the American Dental Association for his work with elementary school children in Korea. He has taught in Korea and Ecuador. He provided mission support for the prevention and treatment of dental disease through Share Care Medico Nepal. More recently, he volunteered his time to help improve the dental health of the children in a Honduran orphanage. He is the founder of the “Red” Logan Dental Clinic, providing free dentistry for patients in need from the Upper Connecticut River Valley.
Bob is an active member of the Church of Christ at Dartmouth, where he has been President, a missioner and an elder. Currently, he is the Deacon of Stewardship and the manager of a major renovation project for the church.
Bob and Jean have been married for 55 years. They have three children and five grandchildren.
It is an honor to present Dr Robert C Keene with the 2010 Distinguished Member Award of the American Academy of Gold Foil Operators.
